A Bit About Me
Bernie came to us from a neglect case in South Jersey. On July 25, 2022, we headed down to a farm after word got out that there were hundreds of animals hungry, dehydrated, and completely uncared for at a “sanctuary”. Yes, an actual sanctuary, a place where animals could live out the rest of their lives happy, healthy, and safe. What was actually happening at this South Jersey farm was just the opposite.
Bernie was completely emaciated, had a bacterial skin condition, and was covered with lice. But to be honest, Bernie was not the first one that caught my eye. There were hundreds of animals that were to be seized, and homes needed to be found for all of them. As I was trying to catch a miniature paint horse with hooves so long they curled up like elf shoes, something kept creeping up behind me. I was so focused on catching this mini, but every time I stopped my feet, this little brown pony would stand quietly at my side. I finally glanced down by my right hip and stood there for a moment, looking down at this poor sick pony. Just skin and bones, no life left in his eyes. At that moment, I said, this one is coming with me right now.
Bernie now knows the true meaning of a happy, healthy, and safe home.
